I kept reminding my parents to set a date with me to visit the bookstore or the malls. There were a lot of tv ads that featured interesting stuff that I could use for school. Now that I am a parent myself, I know how difficult such times of the year are for parents on a fixed budget. A fancy pencil case that I wanted is much more expensive than the basic pencil case that would have done just as well. Cute note books and note pads were just a waste of money when I could have gotten the simple ones. Children don't always understand the value of hard earned money. Therefore, parents like me need to have a good budget for schools supplies. Kids, especially at the start of the school year, are very much excited to shop for school supplies just as I was back in those days. But instead of taking our kids to a trip to the bookstore, try to spend an hour of online shopping with them and see how much you can actually save. LightInTheBox.com now offers students and parents the opportunity to buy Chinese made products suitable for school use directly from China. Products are offered at a fraction of the price of what consumers would pay for the same product at traditional retailers. The special promotion also offers customers a free coupon, allowing them to get an additional US$5 or US$10 off their purchase if they spend over US$50 or US$100 respectively on products featured in the promotion. "We all know how frantic it can get if you do your back-to-school shopping the traditional way, that is, at the local mall. So LightInTheBox offers an alternative, stress-free way to shop for a range of essential back-to-school items," says Alan Guo, CEO of LightInTheBox.com. "It doesn't matter if you are a parent looking for school supplies for your children or a college student looking for products in preparation for the coming academic year – LightInTheBox has the items you need and you will surely save money in the process." In most countries in the Northern Hemisphere, students are on school holidays during the summer months, although dates do vary. Students return to school from their summer holidays around September, and often, the days preceding the commencement of school is a busy shopping time. Every year, this period becomes a hectic time during which students and parents rush to acquire all the stationery supplies (such as pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, binders, notebooks and rulers), uniforms, text books, electronics and gym shoes needed for the coming school year. Popular items on the back-to-school shopping lists of high school and university students this year include Apple MacBooks, Lexmark or Epson printers and JanSport or Eastpak backpacks. Other Apple items like the iPhone, iTouch or iPod Nano are also popular with this group. While primary school aged children are hoping to obtain SpongeBob SquarePants, Sesame Street, Toy Story 3, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, Iron Man or Disney Princess themed backpacks, lunchboxes or even stationery items.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/fashion-articles/where-school-supplies-are-cheaper-4565041.html
About the Author

http://www.styleflair.com/where-school-supplies-are-cheaper/ discount ed hardy handbags cheap ed hardy handbags cheap ed hardy bags

Study Abroad as a Catalyst for Student Development: The Case of Engineering Students
Author: jamil

U.S. student participation in study abroad has almost tripled since the mid-1980s, with substantial growth since the mid-1990s. For many, spending time abroad is a highlight of the undergraduate experience. Yet, a disturbing trend exists: for a variety of reasons, certain student populations are severely underrepresented in study abroad programs. Engineering students are a glaring example. study usWhile 22.6% of the 191,321 students who studied abroad in 2003-2004 were social science majors and 17.5% were business majors, engineers represented only 2.9% of the students that studied abroad. Interestingly, from a developmental perspective, engineers could benefit tremendously from an international experience. In first examining the barriers that prevent engineering students from studying abroad in large numbers, then in examining the unique cognitive developmental benefits the experience can afford them, important questions about how study abroad can be employed as a catalyst for student development come into focus. Barriers to Engineering Student Study Abroad In failing to study abroad in large numbers, engineering students forfeit critical opportunities for development. The most commonly cited reason for not pursuing foreign study is that the engineering curriculum's structure makes it very difficult, if not prohibitive. Since many engineering courses must be taken sequentially and are only offered one time per academic year, studying abroad often means committing to a fifth year of study. Given the exorbitant costs of higher education, postponing graduation is a financial impossibility for many. Further, since many higher level engineering classes are highly technical and require expensive laboratories, the countries in which engineering students can study for credit are limited. Also, studying a foreign language is associated with increased rates of study abroad, and very few schools mandate that engineers learn a foreign language or allow time for it. Another factor is students' impressions of the impact of study abroad on career outcomes. Some students believe that courses taken abroad may be regarded as less rigorous or even frivolous. Interestingly, with engineering powerhouse schools like Indian Institute of Technology and in the age of large-scale, international engineering projects led by multinational corporations, graduates' marketability to employers only increases with international experiencestudy us. Study Abroad as a Catalyst for Cognitive Development For many institutions, the desired outcome as students progress through college is that through coursework and social interaction, students will gradually relinquish their belief in the certainty of knowledge and the omniscience of authorities and take increasing responsibility for their own learning. Due to the mathematical and quantitative focus of engineering programs, many engineers have a general penchant for dichotomous styles of thinking. Whereas a Philosophy major is often graded on long term-papers and essay exams, engineering students are usually assessed by tests for which questions have a single correct answer. Operating in this setting, it is no surprise that engineering students may have less tolerance for ambiguity, and despite their work on collaborative deign projects, many engineers have less developed communication skills than their Humanities and Social Science-oriented counterparts. For these reasons, the social and cognitive development associated with study abroad could have a very beneficial impact on engineering students.study us Many of the social benefits of study abroad are obvious: a change in environment causes students to make new connections, encourages exploration of different facets of their personality as well as increased cross-cultural understanding. In examining how study abroad can spur the cognitive development of engineering students, William Perry's Scheme of Intellectual Development is useful. Developed on the basis of extensive interviews with Harvard undergraduates, Perry sought to "map conceptually the structures which the students explicitly or implicitly impute to the world." According to Perry, these structures transcend content in that they describe not what a student thinks, but how they think and arrive at conclusions.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/international-studies-articles/study-abroad-as-a-catalyst-for-student-development-the-case-of-engineering-students-4516583.html
About the Author

i am a student in science college vesit my site study us

Best Film Schools in the world
Author: Xexes Noir

INDIA

Whistling Woods International:

Despite being home to the world's largest film industry, just five years ago India was in need of better-equipped film institutes. Enter veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who launched Whistling Woods International, Asia's largest film, TV, animation and media arts institute. Located on 20 acres in Mumbai's Film City studio complex and sponsored by Ghai's Mukta Arts (which has produced some of Bollywood's biggest hits), WWI's faculty is headed by dean John Jerome Lee, a former entertainment industry executive. Its advisory board includes acclaimed director Shyam Benegal and superstar Shah Rukh Khan, DreamWorks Animation's Shelley Page, "Elizabeth" director Shekhar Kapur and producer David Puttnam. "Almost 80% of people working in the industry don't have professional training and hence end up learning on the job, which was the impetus for us to launch WWI," says Ghai's daughter, Meghna Ghai Puri, who is also WWI's president. "It offers a unique, two-year MBA in media and entertainment (for) people who want to be executives in areas such as marketing and finance." Specializations include directing, cinematography and editing, along with animation and acting. Tuition is about $28,900 for the two-year program. -- Nyay Bhushan

Australia

The Australian Film, Television and Radio School:

The Australian Film, Television and Radio School has undergone some significant changes in the past two years, including the move to a new state-of-the-art campus in Sydney's film hub and an overhaul of the courses it offers to students and established industry practitioners. The 37-year-old national film school, funded annually by the Australian government with $22 million last year, holds a key position in the Australian film community with more than 2,000 graduates passing though its doors in that time. AFTRS alumni include Oscar-winning cinematographers like Dion Beebe ("Nine") and Andrew Lesnie ("The Lovely Bones") and director Jane Campion ("Bright Star"). An array of courses covering producing, digital media and visual effects, art direction, documentary, screenwriting, screen music, production design and editing are offered, but at the heart of the school are its award courses for new and emerging filmmakers. They include a foundation diploma, a graduate certificate and graduate diploma. Positions in those highly competitive courses are given each year on a merit system based on students' creative portfolios. -- Pip Bulbeck FRANCE:

La Femis

Only 3% of hopefuls who take the entrance exam get into la Femis, the country's most prestigious film school. Housed in Pathe's old studios on Paris' rue Francoeur, la Femis is a public institution under the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, meaning tuition is free to French students. It offers a well-rounded overview of the film business, including artistic development and technical training. Alumni include the creme-de-la-creme of French filmmaking, from Louis Malle, Alain Resnais and Costa-Gavras to newcomers like Francois Ozon, Laetitia Masson, Noemie Lvovsky and Rebecca Zlotowski. In their first year, students are initiated into all aspects of production before specializing in a specific field chosen from seven main departments: directing, editing, sound, set design, cinematography, screenwriting and production. "More than 500 professionals come each year to give special classes or speeches," says Marine Multier, head of communications. "This helps our students succeed in the professional world after they leave." -- Rebecca Leffler

GERMANY

Baden-Wurtemberg Film Academy

While most European film schools focus on film history and the philosophy of cinema, at Baden-Wurtemberg they roll up their sleeves and get to work. When Roland Emmerich wanted a team to wipe out humanity for 1996's "Independence Day," he went to the Baden-Wurtemberg Film Academy. Emmerich's friend Volker Engel, who taught animation there, recruited 14 students and graduates who would go on to win the 1997 Oscar for visual effects. Known for its practical approach to filmmaking, the academy is a leader in animation and visual effects training. In 2007, trade magazine 3D World ranked it the second-best animation college in the world, just behind France's Supinfocom. The school fields regular nominees in the student Oscar race and has twice won the honor. Tike Constantin Hebbeln got it in 2006 for "Nimmermeer" and Thorsten Schmid in 1998 for "Rochade." On-the-job experience is a key part of the academy's teaching. Baden-Wurtemberg only admits students who have at least one of year of practical experience in the film business and two years for its producers program. The academy also works to expose students to an international network of filmmakers by organizing exchange programs with partner institutions like New York's School of Visual Arts and Poland's National School of Film and TV in Lodz. Every year, Baden-Wurtemberg also organizes a Hollywood workshop, including studio tours and internships with production companies in L.A. -- Scott Roxborough

ITALY

Scuola Nazionale di Cinema -- Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia

Michelangelo Antonioni, Dino De Laurentiis, Vittorio Storaro and Italian screen icon Claudia Cardinale are just a few of the famous names who began their film education at the Centro Sperimentale, the oldest and most prestigious film school in Italy. Once accepted by the school's highly selective board, acting students study with leading man Giancarlo Giannini, cinematography students learn from Giuseppe Rotunno (Fellini's lenser on 1983's "And the Ship Sails On") and would-be directors work with helmer Roberto Faenza ("By the Light of Day"). Connected to the Cineteca Nazionale, one of the biggest film archives in Europe, the CSC regularly organizes seminars with international filmmakers, from Martin Scorsese to Wim Wenders. While continually upgrading its state-of-the-art equipment, Centro's tuition is a very reasonable at $2,000 per year for the two- and three-year programs. "One of Centro's peculiarities is its total effort in involving the students in all the movies made by CSC Production, and introducing graduates into working crews," says dean Andrea Crisanti. -- Martina Riva

JORDAN

Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts:

Offering the first and only MFA program in cinematic arts in the Middle East and North Africa, RSICA is a joint venture between the Royal Film Commission of Jordan and the School of Cinematic Arts at USC. Located in historic Aqaba (which any aspiring filmmaker should recognize from "Lawrence of Arabia"), RSICA launched in 2008, graduating its first class of 21 students in May 2002. With tuition in the $25,000 range, the school is another step forward for Jordan, which has garnered Hollywood's attention recently through an aggressive campaign to expand its burgeoning film sector. "Jordan is by far the most progressive and secular regime in that region," says James Hindman, dean and chief academic officer. "They started developing a media plan in 2003 which included a very active, western-style film commission as well as training for crews." With students coming from all over the region, including Lebanon, Kuwait, Syria and Iran, Hindman says the goal is to offer practical training that will allow them to "function on any film set in the world." "We want them to be able to eat," he adds with a laugh. -- Kevin Cassidy

PHILIPPINES

The International Academy of Film and Television, Philippines:

Founded in 2004, the IAFT is located at Bigfoot Studios, a professional studio on the tropical resort island of Cebu, giving students access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. "The academy prides itself on bringing Hollywood to Asia and a hands-on approach to filmmaking education," says Mark Martin, IAFT's executive director. He notes that, through Bigfoot Entertainment, students get to work on the sets of feature films for international release. The academy offers various diplomas in filmmaking, sound design and acting, and recently started a nine-month professional immersion program that guarantees students experience on one feature film from preproduction to post. IAFT has also signed an agreement with Jacksonville University allowing graduates to enter Jacksonville's B.A. program as sophomores. Both cost about $1,000 a year. The institute, which has about 75 film graduates a year, is equipped with basic camera and lighting equipment and has an editing lab for post production. In addition to lectures by notable Filipino cinematographers such as Nap Jamir and Neil Daza, the Institute offers workshops and short training courses covering all areas of production. "UPFI produces filmmakers, not technicians," notes senior lecturer Sari Delana. "Whether it is in mainstream filmmaking, independent filmmaking or television, many of our alumni have become directors." Students can participate in a summer internship in China or an immersion program in Los Angeles. In addition, Singaporean students can work with those in Chapman to produce cross-cultural documentaries. The curricula are identical to those at the school's New York Campus, explains the school's president, Pari Sara Shirazi. The schools even share some teachers, such as Todd Solondz and Oliver Stone, the artistic director of Tisch Asia. Singapore-based students have access to the New York campus' summer programs as well as internships, but are required to complete their studies in Singapore, at a cost of about $44,000 a year. The school's production facilities include two fully equipped teaching soundstages as well as access to a wealth of animation technology. To graduate with a master's, they must complete either a thesis or a creative work in the form of screenplay or film production. There are some simple techniques that could lead them to some conclusions without telescopes or computers; however, there are other things that they knew that only some connection with the divine could know.

What did they know, when did they know it, and most importantly HOW did they know?

The Mayans knew the ecliptic path of the constellations, the timing of solstices, equinoxes, and zenith passage of the sun, solar sun spot cycles, the exact length of a solar year, length of precession, wobble and tilt of the earth, and so much more than our scientific community has only recently discovered.

Who of you that are reading this even know what the above paragraph is saying? :-)

Many have theorized that with crossed sticks, line of sight reasoning, and five hundred pus years of observation that "some things" could be deduced. But, how could they know abut the earth's position in the galaxy? Explain that one with sticks and stuff. N line of sight from the earth can reveal such information.

So, was it what they were smoking? Was it the peyote cactus, the smoked mushrooms, and the other hallucinogenic plants that were in abundance? How were their shamans able to conduct psychic surgery and other healing rites? Were their ceremonial trances somehow open portals to the divine causeway? Did they have an understanding of divine cosmic energy that we've yet to discover?

We may never know the answers and then again, we may in the next few years as some of the 400 Mayan elders begin to release hithertofore unknown books that have remain hidden: only to be released before 12.212012. We can blow off such indigenous tribes as the Mayans but they are only ONE of the dozens of historical cultures that have given us warnings about December 21, 2012, or the period around that date.

The Mayan mysteries will remain as such for at least a few more years, or maybe months!
About the Author:

As a spiritual-futurist, I have a BA degree majoring in history. You can stay on your parents' plan, take advantage of the COBRA healthcare program, or you can pay for short-term or long-term coverage yourself. Being young and healthy, you may feel that cheap student health insurance is unnecessary, but you couldn't be more wrong.

Why You Should Invest In Health Insurance

The bottom line is all about health and money. It may be easy to dismiss the possibility of requiring medical services, but accidents and illnesses do happen. A trip to the emergency room averages $3,300. As a college student with limited resources, this could be financially devastating, especially if your injury keeps you from working for any period of time. Cheap health insurance can save you more than you think.

Studies have shown that those without a medical plan are 40% more likely to be hospitalized for avoidable conditions than are those who have invested in cheap medical insurance. The reason is simple. If you have a medical insurance and see a doctor regularly, conditions are diagnosed in early stages and are easier to treat. Delaying treatment of even the most trivial injuries or illnesses can be a fatal decision.

Evaluate Your Medical Plan Options

Your first healthcare option, if you are aged 19 to 25 and enrolled in school, is to stay on your parents' medical plan. It is important that you and your parents verify through the insurance agent that you are covered. If you are not in school or if you are over the age of 25, you may need to use COBRA to maintain coverage on your parents' plan. COBRA, or the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, may permit you to continue receiving benefits under your parents' medical plan so long as certain conditions are met. In both of these cases, cheap health insurance is easy.

Many colleges and universities offer health insurance to students. If you are unable to continue under your parents' plan, this is a good place to look for short-term health insurance coverage. Many college students wrongfully assume that they will automatically receive medical benefits under a group medical plan once they join the work force. Even if medical benefits are offered, they generally do not become active until after you have worked for a specified period of time, usually 90 days. It is to your advantage to invest in short-term, cheap health insurance until you are fully covered under a medical plan elsewhere.

Making The Best Possible Health Insurance Decision

Many independent health insurance providers offer both short and long-term health insurance policies. Different plans have different advantages and disadvantages, such as which doctors you can visit, whether or not you need a referral to see a specialist and the amount of your copayment. You can significantly reduce your premiums by opting for a high deductible. You must pay this amount before the insurance benefits begin. Be sure to consider several 'what if' situations to determine the best health insurance and deductible for your personal situation.

Whether you are able to stay on your parents' policy or not, their insurance agent can be a wealth of information and it doesn't cost anything to ask questions about your options. Failing to get cheap health insurance can cost you a lot more than money.
About the Author:

Christine O'Kelly is a contributor writer for Health Insurance Finders. One of the major things that our young people have had to face is the problems in the Middle East. Many of our young people were ask and they elected to go abroad and help during the crisis that we have been having in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of these young people have lost their lives while others have been faced with total disabilities that prevented them from going to college when they returned home.

The cost of tuition to attend college has been a major deterrent that stopped many young people from going to college. Unfortunately, the job market has been very bad which prevents our younger people from going to college. Many lay-offs and downsizing in major corporations of executives has made many of our young people wonder if they want to go to college to become accountants, architects, account executives etc. Is it any wonder with all the major problems that the ones who now hold the position that younger people find they do no longer want to go in the business world?

Many other positions are opening which makes it better for those who want to attend college. The field of medicines is one that has many openings while some of the fields in business are phasing out which makes many changes in the courses that colleges are now offering. President Obama's stimulus package has promised that college students will not be forgotten with his intentions to help the student as well as the colleges to get back on their feet it is a matter of time before we can really tell what will happen.

College students feel the crunch of our failing economy with the cost of attending school without as much help as they have had in the past. Now that the promise of more grants from the government many students are taking a new interest in some of those careers that are offered by the local community colleges as well as Universities. New students are very interested in finding a career that will last and with the help that is offered they feel that it is possible. Many college students who have felt the crunch in the past now feel that they are on the road to recovery with the aid of the government.

As the economy goes on, it just works in cycle and sooner or later, you'll find that the banks are willing to lend again, colleges will drop prices and everyone around you will be hiring once again. This is just how our world works. If it makes you feel any better, many experts believe that we will never see a time like this again in our lifetime and it could only happen every few hundred years. As America learns from their mistakes, so do we. The economy will hurt us for now but let's hope it gets better.
About the Author:
Are you a student looking to build credit? It is most often made from various types of fermented grape juice, although you can make wine by fermenting other foods such as fruits, barley, ginger, and rice. These wines are distinguished from the grape beverage by their names which are derived from the substance used; for example barley wine, or strawberry wine.

Grapes earn the distinction of becoming "just wine" due to the fact that their chemical balance naturally allows them to ferment without the addition of acids, sugars, or enzymes.

Non grape wines earn the "wine" label due more to the fact that they have a higher alcohol content than beer, rather than due to the manufacturing process which is used to produce them.

Wine is made when crushed grapes are fermented using yeast. The yeast eats the sugar in the grapes and converts it into alcohol. The type of yeast used, as well as the type of grape fermented, will depend on the style and brand of wine that is being manufactured. Various ingredients can result in strikingly different wine tastes.

Etymologically the word wine is derived from a number of proto-european sources including the proto-germnanic word "winam" and the proto-indo European word "win-o". The direct root for the word, the Latin "vinum" is probably a derivation of one of these older words, although there are sources which cite similar labels for the beverage across the Eurasian landscape.

Wine is thought to have originated around roughly 6000 BC near modern day Georgia and Iran. It is estimated that it reached the European mainland somewhere around Greece by the year 4500 BC. At that point it became very important in ancient Greek and classical cultures, and began to spread throughout the world.

About the Author:

This article was written by style philosopher Joey Pebble. They tell readers what happened. This is as if the author says, "I see the events in my mind, and I’m writing about what I saw." Very few fictional books are written in the present tense.

One reason for this is that writing in the present tense provides serious challenges to the author: maintaining perspective, introducing prior events, and filtering the stream of consciousness.

Below, we discuss these challenges and provide an example of present-tense writing done well.

1. Maintaining Perspective:
Well-written scenes have only one perspective. As readers, our focus is on one character, and the scene is described through that character’s experiences. Usually, the focus will be on the protagonist. We perceive the scene through that character. However, that scene can be described again from another character’s experience. This is possible because the scene is written in the past tense. We already know that it has happened.

When writing in the present tense, the events have an immediacy that makes this difficult. We read about what is happening at the moment, not about what already happened. This limits the author’s ability to show events from multiple perspectives because when the perspective shifts, the events already occurred. As such, when the perspective changes, the author continues to show what is now happening but through a different perspective. The author keeps the readers in the "now." This can be a powerful tool for keeping the reader engaged in the story, but it is difficult to accomplish.

2. Introducing Prior Events:
Events do happen prior to the current experience, and describing them in a present-tense story requires a shift to the past tense. However, the author may need to include those events to help the reader understand the present experience or to provide the motivation for a character’s actions and thoughts. This is difficult to accomplish. The author must make these time shifts smoothly, without losing the present-tense perspective and without making the reader wonder when the event is taking place. The author has to separate present and past tense without damaging the readers’ engagement in the present tense events.

3. Filtering the Stream of Consciousness:
The human brain is always thinking, which means that the character on whom we are focused is having many thoughts. Some may be repetitions, some may be revisions of prior thoughts, and some may be off topic completely. Some will be new and relevant to the experience the character is having.

The challenge to the author is identifying the thoughts that are relevant and necessary to the story without creating gaps in the character’s consciousness. Shifting between a description of thoughts to description of physical activities and environment will help, but as with introducing prior events, this can be difficult. While we are reading the character’s thoughts and feelings in the present tense, other actions and events are occurring. Thus, when the author "leaves the character’s mind" and returns to the "real world," he cannot go back to describe what has happened in the meantime. So the second part of this challenge is to ensure that the reader doesn’t miss critical events.

An Example of Present Tense Fiction:
Robert Silverberg, winner of multiple Nebula and Hugo awards, uses the present tense very effectively in Starborne. This is the story of 50 people traveling across the universe through "nospace" to find a new planetary home. Obviously, it is science fiction.

Here’s a quip from the book that addresses the second and third challenges:

"The year-captain wonders whether everyone aboard, one by one, is about to undergo some maddening transformation for the worse. Already Noelle is losing the ability to communicate with her sister on Earth; the blunt and straightforward Sieglinde has unsettlingly chosen to challenge the reliability of the theorems that she herself helped to write; and now the easygoing and irreverent Heinz is tiresomely eager to explain the year-captain’s own responsibilities to him. What next? What next, he wonders."

Science fiction may not be your preferred genre, but this novel is worth reading if you intend to write in the present tense and are unsure about how to do it well. Find it in a bookstore, sit in a chair, and read the first couple chapters, at least. Study how Silverberg resolves the three challenges noted above.

We have a variety of editorial services for authors that will help you prepare your manuscript, but reading and studying Starborne will give you a good start.
About the Author:

David Bowman is the Owner and Chief Editor of Precise Edit, a comprehensive editing, proofreading, and document analysis service for authors, students, and businesses. The debate over school uniforms is
complicated, so we've included highlights from both sides for
you to consider:

Professional:

Some say that a child in a school uniform is more likely to take
school seriously. Putting on the school uniform signals he or
she is going to school just like dad dresses up to go to work.
Schools report that when students dress in "work clothes" rather
than "play clothes" they take a more serious approach to their
studies.

Promotes Good Discipline:

Many think that school uniforms help maintain school discipline,
decreasing the amount of discipline problems. The argument is
that children today are lacking in self-discipline because
parents refuse to discipline them. This makes it more difficult
on the teacher who has to deal with classes of 25-30 students at
a time.

Reduces Fighting and Violence:

Schools report that school uniforms decrease fighting and
violence that arrise out of arguments over fashionable clothes.
Children invariably tease those who do not have trendy clothes.
Those who can't afford name brand clothes are often sensitive
about their clothing. Schools struggling with gang problems
report that school uniforms help ease tensions.

Distractions:

Many parents believe that students wearing school uniforms look
nicer and that a school uniform policy ensures that children
will come to school in appropriate clothing, avoiding
distractions such as fads considered to be outlandish or overly
revealing. Some students have turned school into an unending
fashion show. This disctracts from learning, as some kids spend
more time focused on thier clothes than on homework.

Values:

School uniforms stress that individuality and self-expression
are not determined by designer clothing or the latest fashion
fad.

Low Cost:

School uniforms are a bargain. They are becoming far less
expensive than many other clothes. Schools argue that school
uniforms are economical, especially compared to designer
clothing, and parents agree given school uniform durability.
They say school uniforms last longer because they are made for
repeated wash and wear. Many schools capitalize on this by
starting used school uniform stores or swap meets. Parents can
get used school uniforms at discount prices, or just use them as
hand-me-downs between siblings.

School Spirit:

Some feel wearing a school uniform helps build school spirit. It
instills a feeling of belonging. As the Beach Boys said, "Be
true to your school." Schools report an increase in school pride.

Individuality:

Supressing individuality is the most commonly cited objection to
school uniforms. Educators argue that an academic program
encouraging students to pursue individual thought is much more
important than what they wear. They inhibit creativity and
self-expression, forcing students to conform.

Causes Discipline Problems:

Some students reject any rules. Forcing them to wear school
uniforms only aggravates their rebelious spirit. They alter
their school uniform by tightening, widening, shortening, or
lengthening them, and teachers are given the impossible task of
policing the students on a daily basis.

Little or No Relationship to Academics:

Opponents insist that their is no credible evidence that school
uniforms improve school discipline or promote higher academic
acheivement. The principal argument is that some great students
are terrible dressers. Dress does not necessarily improve
learning.

About the Author:
Isaac Grauke is manager of sales and marketing for Hall Closet
Uniforms and Apparel, http://www.hallclosetuniforms.com
Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/advice-articles/pros-and-cons-of-school-uniforms-182.html

Online Education: Major Challenges Faced by Online Students
Author: Jitendra Sethi

With the rise in popularity of e-learning come some unique challenges not extant with more traditional classrooms. Students need to be aware of the differences between online and traditional classes and be prepared to make the necessary adjustments. Significant challenges faced by online students include the following:

- Technical problems. Computer hardware and peripheral devices such as printers, modems and routers are not indestructible; as with any other man-made device, they can break down or malfunction at the most inopportune time. In addition to equipment failure, an older computer may be incompatible with some software required for the course. For more details visit to www.guardadsense.com .Viruses, Trojans, spy ware and other malaria could infect a computer, causing it to run poorly or not at all. A slow internet connection might cause problems logging into class, retrieving and submitting assignments, and posting to threaded discussions. Any of these problems could cause a great deal of frustration for the student trying to complete course assignments. Therefore, it is important for the student to have access to a backup computer to use in case of equipment malfunction.

- Staying motivated. Going to school always requires a certain level of motivation from a student regardless of whether it’s a "bricks-and-mortar" institution or online class. In a traditional classroom setting, a student has live, face-to-face interaction with the instructor and fellow students -- a camaraderie that may help boost enthusiasm and motivation for the course. In an internet-based class however, there is no live contact with instructor and classmates -- the student works alone in a virtual environment. This lack of live contact may lead to a feeling of isolation, and make it difficult for a student without a high internal commitment or personal drive to stay motivated during the course.

- Self-discipline. As with motivation, a student needs good self-discipline to succeed online. The freedom and flexibility of e-learning is what's so attractive to many people. There's no obligation to login to class at any particular time or place -- you can go to class and do your assignments whenever it's convenient for you. However, this same freedom can lead to procrastination, and cause the unwary or undisciplined student to fall behind in his assignments. Once behind, it can be difficult to catch up.

- It's difficult to improve oral communication skills. There are many classes such as speech, drama, debate, teacher education and so forth that require the student to make oral presentations in front of a group of people .To know more logon to www.instant-adsense-dollars.com .With online courses this is not practical, as the classroom is virtual, and the students are not all gathered together at one time in one room. A student wishing to improve oral communication skills may need to take these classes in a traditional classroom course.

- Classes with lab or hands-on requirements may not be available online. If a lab course cannot be simulated or practically offered online, a student will need to take the course at a local college campus or other location with the necessary facilities for completing the course work.

Students considering taking online courses need to be aware of these and other challenges, and be prepared to meet them in order to be successful online. If any challenge seems insurmountable, the student should reconsider the online option and perhaps take a traditional ground-based course instead.
About the Author:

www.greateducationonline.com

www.forum-marketing-videos.com

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/online-business-articles/online-education-major-challenges-faced-by-online-students-762613.html

Some Interesting Acupuncture Schools Faqs
Author: Malc Moore
In today\'s world, children are often asked what they\'d like to be when they grow up. The career possibilities available to young and old people alike are vast, and there are many different areas of opportunity that wouldn\'t even have been considered fifty years ago. Gone are the days where children followed in their parents\' footsteps, taking over the family business. Now, individuals can be anything they\'d like to be.

Acupuncture is a growing technique and its practice can definitely be added to the career choices of youths today. So when thinking about a career a young person may want to choose to go to one of the acupuncture schools to learn to be an acupuncturist, alternatively they may choose a healing school to learn alternative medicine.

In the last few years, there has been a great increase in the interest in complimentary medicine, and learning how to practice it by enrolling in healing schools or acupuncture schools. For some people, like sports trainers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, chiropractors, and even nurses, getting training at one of the acupuncture schools is a way to supplement the regular health regime.

Social workers and mental health professionals are also looking into the psychological aspect of using acupuncture on certain patients. It is believed that acupuncture can relieve many of the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, and even depression. They will teach you at most acupuncture schools that acupuncture is a great means of connecting the mind and body together to find a balance. It is this balance that makes it so appealing to many individuals across the globe.

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM) is a billion dollar industry. It is expected to double in size within the next twenty years, as more and more people turn to acupuncture to deal with health and mental issues in a different, more naturalistic way. When more people begin to request a certain service like acupuncture, this leads to an increased need for more practitioners. In the United States, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requires that a acupuncturist be licensed and trained, so training at one of the good acupuncture schools would be a wise decision for sure.

This training is actually quite extensive and can take many years, definitely not as easy as running down to the local city hall and picking up a piece of paper. It is this training that teaches the student how to identify the patient\'s problem, suggest a treatment plan, and then begin the process of treating the issue.

When choosing one of the acupuncture schools to learn to become a licensed and trained acupuncturist, it is important to check on a few things. The first is the length of the course, and the amount of information covered. The second is if there is practical field work, essential to learning the actual hands-on material of acupuncture. The third is to check if it is one of accredited acupuncture schools. There is not much use in going to school for a long time only to find out that the school is not accredited. Acupuncture as a career might not be for everyone, but it is definitely a consideration with today\'s booming health field careers. Check it out and you might find it surprisingly interesting.About the Author:

For lots more about acupuncture schools and about becoming an acupuncturist check out our web site www.ecoholistic.com .

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/wellness-articles/some-interesting-acupuncture-schools-faqs-759688.html

Some Interesting Acupuncture Schools Faqs
Author: Malc Moore
In today\'s world, children are often asked what they\'d like to be when they grow up. Your self. Understanding your own learning style will help you select a program that suits you-making the journey toward a higher degree more profitable and pleasurable.

Universities have responded to the need for flexibility, portability and convenience by responding to different learning styles. Working adults can earn bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from local, regional and national universities-by attending day school, night school, weekend programs, online and blended programs.

The point is: the 'college experience' now runs the gamut from day classes on campus to online courserooms that let you log in from home or a post in the Middle East. To make the most of the educational experience, choose wisely.

Consider the following before you select a university:

1.
Are you a visual or auditory learner? Visual learners: About 40 percent of students are visual learners. If you are a visual learner, you learn best with the help of written words, pictures, diagrams, films, and demonstrations. You prefer visual stimuli and may have trouble concentrating in a noisy environment. Consider online education.

Auditory learners: If you are an auditory learner, you prefer listening to seeing, would rather give an oral report than a written one, and are better at following spoken rather than written directions. Check out on-campus programs.

2.
Does frequent interaction with your peers inspire you to higher performance? This is a tricky question. What does interaction look like to you? Does it mean being in the same room with your classmates? And if so, are you really conversing with other students or simply listening to a lecture together? Do you desire interaction that will improve your mastery of the subject matter? Interaction in both on-campus and online courserooms can be robust-often depending on the style and skill of the instructor. One significant difference in online courserooms is that mastery of the subject is typically demonstrated through writing rather than tests. During your tenure in the course, you'll have the opportunity to see other students'
best thinking in writing; this level of interaction often greatly enhances learning.

3.
Where will education fit best into your schedule? Nearly half of all grad students enroll between ages 24 and 35 and one-quarter start at age 36 or older. About a third of grad students are rearing children. In other words, the 'average' student these days has lots of obligations.

For students with lots of activities in addition to work, a university that flexes to the student's schedule may be the number one requirement. Onlineeducation gives students round-the-clock access to the tools and content of the course. On the other hand, if you're a student who prefers to build your schedule around a twice-a-week course, on-campus learning may be for you.

An expert opinion

Virginia College Online President Stanley Banks suggests students consider the following when deciding which learning model is right: If you enjoy test-taking, live discussions, and face time with your professor and peers as stimulus to manage your time and get your work done-you're probably a candidate for on-campus learning.

If you are a self-disciplined, self-motivated learner, prefer communicating through writing and desire learning through the writing of other students, online education may be the ideal solution for you. If you see yourself in both camps, try a blended model of on campus and online learning.

For more information or help deciding your best course of action, contact the Admissions Department at Virginia College Online at 888-827-7770 or visit Virginia College Online at www.vconline.edu

Top 5 GED Study Secrets

The 39 million adult Americans who have no high school degree earn lower wages and aren't eligible for many career and educational opportunities. That's why more than 800,000 people take the GED each year. Unfortunately, many of them don't pass on their first try. Adults who need a GED probably never acquired good study skills, and learning on your own can be very challenging if you never graduated high school. Here are five simple study secrets that can help anyone learn:

1. Know what you don't know.

If you don't know what areas you need to study, you waste a lot of time and energy. By taking a GED practice test as a first step in studying for the GED, you can better understand what you need to learn. Keeping track of what questions were difficult and understanding your GED score can help you plan what you need to study.

2. Apply what you study.

Reading a textbook is not an efficient way to learn. Many learners don’t know how to absorb all the information in a book. By applying what you're studying to real-life situations and problems, you will retain the knowledge and be able to use it on a test. Try using what you’re learning in your life, using math at the supermarket or applying social studies ideas to things in the news. If we don't use knowledge, it doesn't mean anything to us. Imagine learning to drive a car from a book. It wouldn't work. You need to get behind the wheel.

3. Focus on thinking skills.

While the GED tests basic reading, writing, and math skills, the focus is not on memorizing facts or equations. The GED is designed to test your ability to solve problems, evaluate situations, and analyze information. Hone your thinking skills in these areas by learning about inferences, evaluation, and analysis. Thinking critically and clearly will help with every area of the GED.

4. Manage your time.

Set aside a small amount of time every day to study, and study one subject at a time. Don't try to learn everything all at once. You need time to absorb information. A half an hour of study time every night will give you better, faster results than a cramming session before the exam. Start with the easiest material first, so that you can get some of the tests out of the way.

5. Assess your progress.

As you're studying, continue to test yourself to track your progress and see how you're doing. GED practice questions are the best way to test how you’re doing. This will give you a good idea of what you still need to study. Plus, it will tell you when you're ready to take the test and pass.
Article Source: http://www.articleset.com

Choosing the Right Pharmacy Technician Training

Choosing the Right Pharmacy Technician Training
Author: Unitek College

If you’re considering a career in the pharmaceutical industry, and more specifically as a pharmacy technician, there is one thing that is important to learn before you ever begin your training. That is: what are the main characteristic of a good pharmacy technician course?

Without the right training, you may find yourself struggling to find work. There are many companies out there who are in need of PTs. As a career choice, taking your pharmacy technician training will enable you to find jobs in any city. Without the right training, however, you may find yourself wondering why all of those other guys are getting hired, and you aren’t.

With hundreds of options to receive your Pharmacy Technician Training, finding the right school can be confusing. You can learn to become a PT at technical schools, colleges, universities, and even with from some private schools/businesses. Since choosing the right program is the key to getting the right start, we have developed this guide to help you get started.

Characteristics of a Good PT Technician Course

Choosing the right program isn’t difficult. It’s as simple as paying attention to a few key areas. Looking for these characteristics will ensure you’ll be getting the right start in your new career as a PT.

What the Course Teaches

The first thing to look at is the content of the course itself. Good PT training should include elements in: pharmaceutical compounding, pharmacology, drug distribution, and the industry itself. The program should also provide an introduction to law as it applies to pharmacies.

Time Frame

The next area to look at when choosing your Pharmacy Technician training is the length of the program. You will find that these courses range from 6 months up to two years. Choosing an accelerated program, which will put you into the workforce in less than 1 year, will cost you less in the long run.

Both Classroom, and On the Job Training

Another aspect that will help you learn faster, and gain experience, is an externship. The better PT training programs will include a portion that gets you out on the job, and working with a pharmacy in the area. The experience you gain here will help you find work faster once you graduate.

Availability of Student Financing

One area that really separated a good school, from the pretenders, is student financing. A school that has programs in place to help you get financing for your course, is important. Not only does it make paying for your training more convenient, it also means that they are actually qualified to provide your PT training (most countries require an institution to become certified before gaining the ability to provide financing).

Placement Assistance

The last important part of a good PT training program is help getting a job when you’re done. It isn’t that you won’t be able to find a position yourself. With the demand in the industry, you very likely will be able to. If the school does offer placement assistance though, it means they have developed relationships with pharmacies, and that they are respected as a school.

Taking the time to go to school and get educated in any field is a big step. By paying attention to the program you are about to take, you will help to ensure that you get the best education possible.

About the Author:

For more information please visit Nursing Training at Unitek College.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/careers-articles/choosing-the-right-pharmacy-technician-training-723837.html

Is Medical Transcription School right for you?

Submitted by Christopher Dunn
Thu, 8 Jan 2009

Do you know anything about the medical transcription industry? If not, listen up. As you know, the medical field is taking off and there is no end in sight. For this reason, medical transcriptionists are in high demand. There are thousands of people the world over working in this capacity, and with many medical transcription schools out there it is safe to say that this number is going to continue to grow.

There are many reasons why you may want to consider enrolling in a medical transcription school:

1. For a career change. If you no longer like your job and want to transition into something more exciting and financially beneficial, attending medical transcription school may be the first step in the process. Once you graduate from medical transcription school you will be well on your way to a career you will enjoy.

2. You can join the medical field without spending tons of money to become a nurse, doctor, pharmacist, etc. While you may not work directly with patients you will be right in the middle of all the action.

3. You can move through medical transcription school in no time at all. It does not take eight years to become a medical transcriptionist. Once you find the right school you can get started and have your degree within a year or so.

Now do you see why more and more people are deciding to attend medical transcription school? If you want to get involved in the medical industry, but don’t want to spend a lot of time and money doing so, you should not overlook the benefits of becoming a medical transcriptionist.

About the Author
http://www.medical-transcription-school.com/ focuses on training for a career in medical transcription. In the UK at least, home schooling is popular (whereas in some Western countries it is illegal), and home study in students enrolling on further education courses is growing also alongside the growth of online education. So what are the pros and cons of home schooling?

One of the most typical criticisms of home schooling – and to a certain extent home study – is the limited socialization with a peer group. This can restrict the individual from influence by differing gender, racial, class, and cultural backgrounds and may have the implication of leading the student to have a one-sided point of view (as according to Rob Reich in The Civic Perils of Homeschooling).

In opposition to this however, others argue that learning environments with many other students may not be the most worthwhile for all. Despite not being the most popular reason for home schooling to be undertaken instead of traditional school-based learning, in a 2003 US poll 30 per cent felt that school was a ‘poor learning environment’.

In line with the growth of home study in higher education, home schooling in the US has found a growth in acceptance over the last few decades. In 1985 Gallup polled the attitude of American voters towards homeschooling and 73 per cent were opposed, but by 2001 this figure had dropped to 54 per cent. However, home schooling is not without its controversies as many non-state school systems arguably are. In Washington DC, a mother was charged with murdering her four children after withdrawing them from school education, and many blamed the fact that her being allowed to take them out of school had led to the lack of detection. However, it must be acknowledged that such negative press has been attributed to traditional schools in the past also.

As with home study in higher education, as well as home schooling in children, logistical reasons such as convenience and lack of transport can have a major part to play. Quite simply, education at home cuts all travel costs that may be incurred by driving or travelling on public transport for lectures, seminars or lessons. If the student lives a great distance away also, the journey may well take too long or prove inconvenient. 23,000 of those asked in the 2003 poll cited this as their reason for home schooling.

There are many more reasons for and against education at home. However, the fact remains that certain students achieve better in certain environments at all levels of education, and the wellbeing and happiness of the individual must be of the utmost importance.

About the Author
Sarah Maple writes about online courses offered by an online UK university

How Students Use Fake Doctor's Notes For School

An exciting get out of jail free card that is becoming increasingly common is the fake doctor's note. This note allows one to get out of all sorts of events. Of course, the fake doctor's note must be made well enough to avoid suspicion. But after the suspicion is passed, one can enjoy the many benefits that a fake doctor's note can provide.

Get Out of School With a Fake Doctor's Note

The first common application of fake doctor's notes is getting out of school. There are a plethora of reasons to get out of school, as students know. Among some of the biggest reasons include late homework or lack of studying for big tests.

But as school is commonly associated with elementary or even high school, college students have found that a fake doctor's note can become their next best friend. Many classes demand that attendance is exemplary. In most college level classes, points are even taken off for tardiness or absentees. To get around this cut in a college student's grade scale, they can simply turn in a fake doctor's note and claim it was beyond their control to make it to class on time.

And although college students can get a huge break from college regulations, it is important to know that there are certain risks involved. For instance, some classes demand that students be present for finals or certain tests. Without their presence, some professors can force the student to take a failing grade for not being present on test day.

For this reason, it is important to students to ensure the day they are being absent is not critical to their grade, and that he work can be made up. If the student is getting a failing grade anyway, there is obviously no point in a fake doctor's note in the first place.

Other reasons for students include avoiding bullying, embarrassing blemishes or sores that they do not want others to see, avoiding a boring field trip, or even avoiding boring assemblies and seminars. These reasons seem more menial than the fore mentioned reasons, and that is because they are. But that doesn't stop students from demanding a day off school every once in awhile for embarrassing reasons or to avoid especially boring assemblies or even bullies.

Legit Reasons for a Fake Doctor's Note in The School Environment

But as we've been discussing the dark side of fake doctor's notes, there is a good side too. Some parents are too busy in the morning getting ready for work to write a parental note to the school. Often, notes from the parent can count just as good as a doctor's note. In this case, a fake doctor's note will come in handy as the student will have nothing to show for being absent. And since some classes demand a doctor's note the next day, this could put the student in a predicament indeed.

Final Thoughts on Fake Doctor's Notes for School Use

A fake doctor's note can do wonders for a student in many applications. Just be sure that the doctor's note looks legit and doesn't look suspicious. Also be sure to not use the doctor's note every time something happens or goes wrong as the school may become suspicious of multiple fake doctor notes. Following these tips will ensure the perfect free day that every student deserves every once in a while.

About the Author:
Do you need a Doctors note or maybe a Fake Doctors Notes? You watch them go with the knowledge that you are providing them with the lifelong tools that will allow them to succeed.

There are, or a many conditions that lie in wait in school, you might even wonder if sending them to school is the best reward. Parents sometimes worry that teacher influences and peer pressures may not be good for your child. That is often when parents begin to think about homeschooling.

Home schools were created to provide parents with an alternative option to educate their child under personal supervision. They want to find a way to instill additional values. It gives parents the ability to be able to control and maintain the education they want their child to have. They can manage their child's behavior and instill in them the values that are important.

However, what people often don't realize is homeschooling is a great alternative to traditional schooling and both the parents and the children can have fun learning things. With homeschooling, parents can make their child's learning process more fun and less rigid compared to the traditional school system.

Here's a list on how to make homeschooling your children fun:

1. Make reading more fun

The best way to teach a child is to make things easier for him or her to understand and learn. The best way to do this is to introduce fun into the setting.

For instance, if you want to teach your children to read, it would be better if you will read to them just to have some fun. Let them enhance their imagination by generating life into the characters included in the story. In this way, they will be able to learn things with lots of fun.

Create a connection with their books and give them norms and standards than those set by the typical school system.

2. Make learning comfortable

If the child or the student is comfortable with the program, then homeschooling can be more fun. It will generate more enthusiasm persuading the child to participate in the process.

The point here is that in order to make homeschooling more fun, parents should never be cumbered on the idea of teaching itself. They should teach by example. That is, truly, a fun way of learning things.

Source: Free Articles

Finding the Right College Internship

These days, it may seem more difficult to find a job after graduating from college, as so many teenagers elect to attend college after high school than have in the past. It now seems that going to college is becoming a necessity if one wishes to find a job, just as a high school diploma was on par previously.

So what is one to do if they wish to set themselves apart from all the rest after their undergraduate career? Locating and participating in a college internship has become a very effective way in bolstering your resume for recruiters and employers upon graduation.

Not only does its presence on a resume serve a candidate well, but also the experiences and values one can gain by participating in an internship are numerous. As many kids turn to college after graduation, finding a college internship can help separate you from the pack of those whose similar resumes must seem repetitive to recruiters sorting through piles of new candidates' paperwork.

By no means should the experience be deemed strictly for resume building purposes. Embracing the skills and new lessons you can learn interning for a company is important, as this practical knowledge will surely come in handy later in one's career.

Also, do not get any old internship you can find. Try to get one that sparks your interest and has some relevance to the career path you wish to take later in life.

If you find your internship boring and pointless, it almost defeats the entire purpose of it.
The real world knowledge you will gain through a college internship will be evident to the employer or recruiter you are trying to impress.

Sitting through numerous interviews trying to fill the position you are applying for, as well as countless past interviews, interviewers begin to get a feel for judging a candidate's competency and experience by speaking to them. If you are 'winging it' it will show in your interview, as your answers will probably be shoddy and sloppy.

Speaking from actual experience and answering questions with some experience in the real world will allow you to provide thorough, well-informed answers to an interviewer's questions and prove your qualification for the position. It is never fun to stumble through an interview; it can take away one's confidence and become an embarrassing episode for a candidate trying to gain some interviewing confidence.

Participating in a college internship may help to provide the applicant with the ability to speak with confidence on subjects they have become well versed in over the course of the internship. While having a college internship on your resume by no means guarantees you a job once you graduate, many companies prefer to hire their own interns to new full time positions upon graduation.

Also, interviewing skills are priceless, speaking from one's own experiences only gives the applicant the ability to confidently answer any questions the recruiter may have about their qualifications. And, as always, a good GPA is usually important to employers hiring recent college graduates.

About the Author
More information on College Works Painting, College Works Painting tips and College Works Painting FAQ is just a click away.

Choose a Martial Arts School That Teaches You How to Survive

Get into a good martial arts school that teaches you how to survive! Don't spend years learning useless forms or how to use weapons that were popular in ancient societies. Who carries around a staff or sword in the real world? Find a school with a curriculum that emphasizes overall fitness, self-defense, and survival!

Most martial artists will tell you that your chances of surviving abduction once an attacker gets you into his car are slim to none. Their advice is to fight for your life because statistics show that the consequences are grim. On Wednesday, July 28, 2004, Larissa del Mar Fiallo, Miss Dominican Republic, was assaulted by two men who tried to kidnap her in the parking lot of a shopping mall.

What is interesting to us about this story reported by CNN.com (July 29, 2004) is that Ms. Fiallo was able to escape her attackers because of her judo training. She explained how she fought back when the two men tried to get her into their car and how she knocked over the larger one three times. Her attackers eventually left the scene. While Ms. Fiallo suffered deep cuts and bruises to various parts of her body, she survived the attack and was released from the hospital several days later.

One type of school to completely steer clear of is one that is very traditional, in the sense that you must pay your dues by doing countless hours of forms and techniques that would not work in the street before the instructors give you the "secret" techniques. Don't get me wrong, forms, katas, and tradition have their place in the martial arts, but not when it comes to self-defense.

Combat sports schools such as boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, MMA, judo, and jiu jitsu are very good places to learn, because in most cases, you get a sense of reality in the training. That is, a real live opponent who is resisting and attacking you. But there are 2 things you need to be aware of when you attended these types of schools for self-defense.

The first is application for the street. Combat sports are just what the name says, a sport. Now as I said earlier they are the best to experience defending yourself against another fully aggressive human being. However, as in all sports, there are rules to make the contest fair and keep the contestants relatively safe. Not so in the street. In the street there are no rules, in fact things considered foul play in a combat sport are probably the best techniques for the street. So if you're in a combat sports school find an instructor that can teach you the logic and the crossover from the ring to the street.

The second is safety. Instructors must simulate what can happen in the street as close as they can, safely. If you attend a school where there is reckless abandon in the training or you constantly are fighting far more superior students, it's only a matter of time until you get hurt. And being injured means your not going forward in your training. It is also harder to defend yourself (impossible with serious injuries) when you are hurt. Ancient warriors invented martial arts training to better their chances on the battlefield. But you can never completely recreate what happens on the battlefield (or in the street) in the gym or dojo, cause then everyone would be hurt or dead! Pushing your body and mind is part of martial arts training, but so is keeping your body healthy and safe. It's a fine line to balance.

Most people are concerned with their safety in an increasingly uncertain world. They want to be prepared to defend themselves and their loved ones. Ms. Fiallo's years of judo training paid off. Are you ready to fight for your life?

About the Author:
Calasanz has created his own system of martial arts and self-defense.

Personalized Graduation Gifts Ideas.

Personalized Graduation Gifts Ideas

By: Janet R.

Graduation is one of the most momentous experiences in a student s life. Any person would cherish such memorable time when people are acknowledging other people s achievements. Graduating means the end of old chapters and the beginning of the next one. Graduating in any level is an important milestone for any educational level. Today, the trend of recording the days of achievement is by means of videos and cameras. However, giving something extra special to the graduate is still the best way to mark the celebration. This is one way also of showing deep gratitude and appreciation for their years of study.

The event itself can give you clues to conceive what gifts to buy. For most parents, giving gifts for their graduate child is quite an easy task. This is an easy job especially for most moms that they could come up with right pick of gift item for their child s need. Practical yet stylish gifts are ideal to delight their taste. Think of anything that can help them adjust and motivate them to take another step higher towards their college life. Or, you may consider asking them directly, after all, to ask won t hurt you. Although they would tend to ask for too much, however you can still come up with other great ideas that can also excite them.

Having personalized gifts in mind is an advantage. Any graduate would appreciate gifts that are made personally for them. The practical idea here is, these items usually come with cheaper prices, from simple to elegant. Great personalized gifts are from common and simple things and eventually turned into exquisite mementos. These items are available with a wide array of selection. You can find them at your local gift stores and online stores. Wider choices and other customizing options for these things can be found in online stores. You don t have to run from one store to another to enhance the item s appeal. Most online stores offer monogramming service at their own place, therefore this can be another convenient shopping option for you.

Such personalized items to be considered are personalized cufflinks. Complete the overall appeal of your graduate with elegant cufflinks. This item is very versatile where your graduate can use it during the day of commencement itself, graduation ball and other formal parties and events. Different varieties of cufflink designs, style and themes are available in most specialty stores. Add personal touch by monogramming his initials, or hit his interest by themed feature. Themed cufflinks such as sports themed cufflinks are ideal for his interest in sports. Or perhaps a Personalized Ultimate Sports Bag to pack his numerous sports stuff in one.

For achievers that are aiming for good careers, give them great motivation by presenting elegant personalized business gifts. Like other themed items, business items come with different options too. You can also customize them by monogramming the name or initials of your receiver. Customized gifts such as personalized desk and accessories, business card holders, money clip, pen set and the like are great ideas as well.

Author Resource:-> Jnet is an author for a variety of lifestyle issues and topics. And of the two, being smart or being beautiful, which one ranks first? What if you are one of the lucky ones that is both smart and beautiful-and what if you are also rich? God, some people are so darn lucky! Really, being smart is considered an important attribute and most people would never admit to being anything less. So how do we determine whether you are smart or not, and if you pass muster, how do we rank you by degree of smartness?

Many would consider IQ as the barometer test for degree of "smartness" but this quotient only measures certain qualities of intelligence. Many people have artistic abilities, for example, which would not be necessarily measured by such a test. Moreover, the IQ test does not factor that some people are poor test takers-nervous Nelly's by nature, who panic at the slightest. Such types do not perform well under the pressures of a test. Because a person is inherently nervous does not mean that this person is not very smart. People of this sort need to be put into an optimal state before one can adequately assess the true level of their intelligence.

One thing that scientists and statisticians have been able to determine is that problem solving, and strategy games like chess and others help improve a person's cognitive functioning and can therefore raise one's intelligence. This would only seem to make sense. After all, if we look at someone who goes to the gym to work out and in so doing the happy gym-goer stresses the muscle properly, the result is that the muscle comes back stronger and grows more functional.

Analogously, with increased "mental muscle" comes increased ability to solve problems-emotional as well as day-to-day-and increased ability to make oneself financially successful. Now I don't know about you, but having financial success is certainly worth a little time and effort at working out those gray cells lining the frontal lobe of your brain.

So get going and start working those crosswords, sudoku, and cryptic puzzles (try the latter and you will really get a brain workout). Try some math puzzles and problems. Who knows? We may see you on the cover of Fortune Magazine in 2008. Whatever mental exercise you choose, have fun and remember that whatever time you spend working out your brain will pay many dividends in the present and future time. So how smart are you really? This can be determined simply by how easy it is for you to get the things you want without hurting anyone else.

So what's your IQ?
See more at Cool Math Ebooks and try out some brain work here Problem of the Week and Cool Brain Teasers
Joe is a prolific writer of self-help and educational material and an award-winning former teacher of both college and high school mathematics. The main advantage is that online programs save driving back and forth between classes and it is possible to attend classes at a convenient time. There are two types of degrees of law, viz. Juris Doctor (JD) degree that allows practicing law and an Executive JD (EJD), which is an educational degree in law.Graduates of JD degree program which is a four year, part time program would meet the legal education requirements of the Committee of Bar Examiners and Graduates of EJD which is a three-year part- time program can utilize online degree course to advance their career, expand their employment opportunities as also increase their personal knowledge without becoming a member of the Bar.

Several law schools offer degrees online but it is better to check their credibility. The type of accreditation the school has should be checked and also it should be ascertained how much access can be got with the professors and if the professors have office hours during which they can be contacted. It should be made sure that the curriculum is not only theoretical but also practical and well suited to the specific needs. It should be verified whether the law school makes use of the same books as that of offline students attending classes. The most important thing to be taken care of is the duration to complete the degree course online which would normally take between three and six years to complete.

Highly regarded universities and colleges now offer law degrees which are accessible online for those who want to pursue a career in social law applications. Online degree programs offer opportunities for practicing lawyers to find a job as a law guide or investigator or as a law educator. Online law degrees cover almost everything from law basics to paralegal studies, and international tax law thus enabling a student to practice in a wide range of venues after completion of the course.

Online degree courses utilize the latest in web-based and related information technologies The student who graduate from these courses thus becomes a complete, convenient and fulfilling lawyer just as an on-campus student. Interacting with lectures and tutors individually or in groups, mailing, taking part in electronic discussion forums, taking online self tuition tests and checking the grades are all possible in an online law degree program. Lectures are offered in audio files and as MP3, which can be listened whenever it suits a person, and even listen it again for revision or pause the audio, which is an advantage over off line programs. Tutorials are scheduled on a weekday evening using voice chat technology dealing with the aspects of the unit of work covered during that week.

Online law degree programs are in no way inferior to a regular offline program, which is emphasized by the fact that a virtual law library is available to the students. The database can be accessed by a password using the student ID number once he or she is enrolled as a student. Resources are available in abundance online and for students who do not have access at all to a physical law library, due allowance is made. You can get exhaustive information on various online degree programs offered by world's reputed institutions on http://www.counselorinternet.info/ .

You can also visit http://www.onlineloanhelp.info/ for tips and sources to obtain student loans.

Book of Teacher Cartoons

The New Yorker Book Of Teacher Cartoons

The New Yorker Book Of Teacher Cartoons has a collection of the best and funniest teacher cartoons published by the New Yorker magazine spanning the past 80 years. Rather than spending countless hours in classes learning every possible detail about photography, I learned just the necessary specifics to get started in the business and now I work out of my home part-time earning a full-time income and have been in business for over 17 years; but I started out with practically nothing, just an interest in photography and the need to earn more money. One of the things that my mentor taught me was the Three Classic Elements to produce “salable portraits.”"Salable" is an industry term every photographer quickly becomes familiar with to distinguish between the everyday reality of making money versus creating those “artistic competition” or “award winning prints” which don't earn the money.

I've been in the business for over 17 years now and I'm still amazed that: People don't buy the award winning prints that you see wearing many of the ribbons at professional photography conventions. When my clients are faced with the choice of buying an artistic pose of their child being demure and not looking directly into the camera or buying a pose smiling close-up straight into the camera, they buy the smiling close-up every time. Not very original, but I'm telling you now so take note:

Happy people whose faces you can readily see are the most salable prints. They'll never tell you this at a photography workshop, seminar, Annual Convention or at a photography institute because their job is to create award winning photo artists rather than people whom simply make a living, but...if you haven't learned all the fancy lighting techniques, then you've saved time because the most important thing about light is having enough to keep the face out of the shadows. People prefer any kind of light, as long as there is enough of it to light the face and eyes so you can get a good look at the person!
The quality of light people prefer for portraits is soft light, whether it be from an artificial source like a flash umbrella or a natural source from the sky at sunset, but other than a soft quality of light they want enough of it to SEE the face of the person you're photographing, even if it is a flat almost straight on technique. You may not win any competitions or awards this way, but if you get plenty of light on the faces you'll create salable prints.

This leads me to talk about fill flash. There are times outdoors when you'll need a flash on your camera to fill in dark shadow areas mostly in the eye sockets. Just use one f stop less flash than the existing ambient light calls for. That's enough light to fill the shadows and don't worry about not lugging around a portable umbrella to get the perfect modeling technique. My mentor is right again: there is no change in the sale. The customer pays for well lit faces, not perfect modeling. I've tried it both ways and the customer buys the same amount of pictures in the same sizes no matter what you do.

Element number Two: Body Positioning.

This is a little more detailed area, but it is important, believe me. My basic education from my mentor began with the same advice I'll pass on to you: You should rarely photograph anyone straight on. The exception to this rule will be for family and large groups, which for reasons of body placement will often break this rule. But for individuals or smaller groups of people this rule applies.

Now, when you're not just photographing a head and shoulders close-up you'll have to understand other aspects of body positioning that makes people want to buy their pictures.
Hands. They should always be turned slightly so they are seen from the edge with fingers together, or hide the hands altogether behind your subject or somebody else next to them. Never position hands straight on with open fingers.

Simply put, anything that minimizes how much hand you see works to make it a better portrait. This is always more flattering in a portrait and you'll see they are the ones people buy. Crossing legs at the ankles refines the pose and minimizes this area of the body making it more appealing. Look at it this way, what's less of a distraction: two legs leading to two ankles leading to two feet -- or two legs blending into one ankle section with blended feet? Surely it's the latter. When standing, one cannot simply cross their ankles unless they have something to lean against, so I will have one foot in front of the other in such a way that they taper into one general unit. Have them place their weight on the back leg (remember, they are at a slight 3/4 angle) and bring the front leg forward and slightly tilt the foot to face out toward the camera. Whenever I'd show my mentor my portraits that I was just unsure of, it was these recurring themes that he patiently pointed out to me. As I began to look for these simple things during my portrait sessions,my pictures got better!

I can't stress enough how basic, but important, it is to watch for these details. I have people come to me who went to the contract photographer for their High School Senior yearbook portrait and disliked their picture. They want me to take one that they can proudly give out to friends and family. Usually the problem with the pictures I've seen is that the photography school graduate “intern” who works for the contract photographer took the photo without paying attention to some minor detail. I get it right and my reputation grows from “fixing” the contract photographer's mistake.

The techniques for salable body positioning are what you look for in any pose you try whether close-up or full body. When photographing people full body standing, seated or reclining on the ground, noticing body angle, hands and feet is the way to “fine tune” your portrait and distinguish it from just a “snapshot”. Lastly, I must share my favorite body positioning tool that makes it so easy to make a better portrait than someone who doesn't really know what they're doing: the head tilt.

A woman alone tilts her head just slightly in either direction to make a more stunning portrait.
A man's head can stay straight up or tilt slightly away in the opposite direction from his most forward shoulder but never back towards his most forward shoulder.

Element number Three:

Salable CompositionThere are many compositional techniques in many books, but it doesn't take all that knowledge to make portrait compositions that are what the typical consumer considers good enough to call professional. Once you know what the consumer considers salable, you will be able to reproduce it again and again for other clients. You also will thank me for saving you from thinking that in order to be good enough to sell portrait photography you have to create grand artistic images. You just have to know what works and be able to repeat it for the friends of your clients whom will be getting your business cards by way of referral.

When photographing one individual person, it's so simple I don't think you need too much input for that. In fact, I believe you know the naive simplicity with which you thought “hey, I can do this for a living” after taking some portraits of a friend or family member. Yet it truly gets challenging when there is more than one person involved. I know of a local professional who has referred family portrait clients to me as she specializes in children outdoors. Do you know what that really means? It means she's intimidated by having to do groupings, but that's okay, most people are.

So here's the rule of salable composition: Keep everybody's head at a different level.
Like I told you, I didn't have a fancy College degree so my mentor had to keep it simple enough for me.

In some cases, you will recognize that it's not possible, but if you do your best to stagger head height from individual to individual, you will be creating professional looking images.
You will stand some people, seat some in chairs, seat some on the arms of chairs, seat some on the floor, kneel some, crouch some, lay some down, but you will achieve staggered head heights and salable compositions. Tip heads inward toward one another for unity when photographing a family group.Note that men are usually positioned higher than women.

No, I'm not aware of being a chauvinist pig, but I am aware that this is what usually sells.
Not the images where mom's higher than dad but where dad (even if he's actually shorter!) is positioned just a head or so above mom. Once you understand the rules, you can bend them where you need to in order to make a portrait work; but people will see that you know what you're doing as you position them for a good composition and especially when they see your finished work.

My mentor critiqued my work time and time again over several years as I brought images and questions to him. It almost always boiled down to my understanding these most simple aspects that I've shared with you. I know it's not customary to learn photography on such simplistic terms, but trust me; I've had exposure over the years to many different photography educational venues such as classes, workshops, conventions, guest speakers, lectures, teaching videos and books but never have any of the teachers been willing to simply say “look, there are just a few rules to follow and people will be happy with their pictures”.
Never have I received more helpful advice than I received from my mentor. This is the reason I've written "Professional Photography: Success Without School." Not because schools have no place in the lives of photographer hopefuls, it's just that they are not the only way to guarantee success in the business.
I guess if I could sum up the philosophy my mentor embodied in word form I'd say it was rather like this: “Not everybody wants a masterpiece. Most people just want to remember their loved ones as happy. It's not hard to capture that with your camera, just don't stand them in hard sunlight, standing in a straight line facing straight toward the camera.”

About the Author
-Tom Ray is a Certified Professional Photographer through the Professional Photographers of America. Scholarships seem like a great option to lessen the blow to your wallet. But, you may be wondering if they are achievable for the average student.
The good news is they most certainly are. Not all scholarships are academic scholarships that consider only the straight A, honor-roll students. Many relatively unknown scholarships are available. For example, have you heard about the duct tape prom dress scholarship? Or, what about the scholarship that's just for tall people?
Yes, those scholarships are real. And, there are many others out there like them. But, how in the world do you go about finding one the suits you (or your students) quirks?

The information is out there, much of it online. Here are 3 Simple Tips for locating unusual scholarships online:

1. Use Search Engines - Using Google search for "left hand scholarships" (with quotes) if you are left handed. Insert your various unique qualities and / or hobbies. Don't overlook small things, like hair color, eye color, height, etc... You never know what you will find!

2. Sign Up For a Scholarship Database - There are many scholarship databases online, some free, some paid. These databases usually contain a fairly comprehensive list of available scholarships. We review several popular databases on our site.

3.Visit message boards and forums - A search on your favorite search engine for "scholarship forum" or "scholarship message board" will likely provide you with a wealth of resources. Visit active forums to network with other students who are looking for scholarships. Interesting scholarshipswill likely get talked about. This is a great way of getting "in the know".
With a bit of time and effort, you can uncover real gems. Unusual and quirky scholarships do exist, you just need to find them. The internet can be a great tool to mine for these treasures.
For more tips on locating scholarships, visit http://www.ScholarshipGuide.info
About the author: None

How to Make Home Schooling Fun for Your Child

Being a parent, one of the pleasures of life is seeing your child off to school.

1. Make reading more funThe best way to teach a child is to make things easier for him or her to understand and learn.

2. Make learning comfortableIf the child or the student is comfortable with the program, then homeschooling can be more fun. It will generate more enthusiasm persuading the child to participate in the process.

The point here is that in order to make homeschooling more fun, parents should never be cumbered on the idea of teaching itself. They should teach by example. That is, truly, a fun way of learning things.

Source: Free Articles

How to Choose a Fashion Design School

The big question is whether Fashion Design School is for you - and if so, how to choose the best from all the rest.Is sewing one of your skills? is a viable option now for both parents and kids. There are many varying opinions on this form of learning. Some feel that it is not a good choice while others are encouraging it. Whether or not home schooling is right for your children is up to you. Taking a look at the pros and cons of home schooling might help you make the decision. It's important to get your kids involved in this type of decision making as well.

One con of home schooling is that it does not allow kids an awful lot of interaction with other children. Activities like recess and after school sports are missed out on as well as fun stuff like field trips. Kids do need to spend time with others their own age. It wouldn't be healthy to spend all of their time at home.

A pro is that there is more free time available when home schooling to work on other things.

For example, some kids may complete their daily workload in less time than they would in a structured classroom. This allows them the rest of the day to do what they like or get ahead in their school work.

Slacking off may be a big con. When there is no teacher to scold you, it may become easier to slack off on the work being done. Being at home comes with temptations such as the television or the internet. Some kids may find that they are just too distracted to work and learn effectively at home.

The ability to learn at your own pace is certainly a pro. Not everyone learns at the same rate of success. Very fast or very slow learners might find they really prefer to work at home because it allows them to set the pace rather than struggling to match the class outlined pace. This is especially helpful when it comes to those problem areas that slow some people down. Being able to stop and work through it makes a big difference.

There are many great aspects associated with school that could be missed if one were to learn at home. Prom is one big part of school that many spend years looking forward to. Missing the prom is just one thing. Sports and other extra curricular projects that one does through school, such as yearbook, do not exist at home.

Parents might find that they are happier with the kids learning at home because it gives them a chance to be more involved in their child's development and learning process.

This can be beneficial for parents and kids since it eliminates the void of parents not knowing what their kid is doing at school. It also gives parents the chance to be part of teaching their kids rather than handing the reigns over to someone else.Choosing to home school is a big decision.

Make to involve your kids in it and allow them to think over the options. The choice should be something you make together.

School Girl shoes for Women

Rocket Dog Grade School Shoes - Black, Brown - Women

"It looks much like a mary jane but its certainly not a flat. Not knowing how to “make change” is an underlying problem in today’s society. In this day and age, it is automatically assumed that everyone knows how to make change and that assumption is inaccurate. A high percentage of people who work with money exchange on a daily basis have trouble making change without the use of a register.

However, there are also a high percentage of consumers that are unaware of how much change they are to receive back from the cashier. The traditional teaching for making change may be difficult for many people but that is all about to take a turn for the better. A new magnificent book called “The Annerino (9) (10) Counting Method teaches the reader a short-cut that will help them to quickly achieve the correct change and then count back the change to the customer. Money exchange is made on a daily basis all over the world and it is imperative that our society knows their change. Twin authors Carla Annerino & Angela Annerino have worked with money exchange for over 16 years thus creating a fast and accurate revolutionary counting method for anyone to use. The authors state “This method is excellent for anyone that works with money exchange such as bartenders, cashiers, fast food delivery person, servers, craft shows, festivals etc.” On the other hand, you may not work with money exchange but you will forever be a consumer and you should always know how much change you are to receive.
This method is great for the children of our future to learn as well.
Making change the traditional way has just been replaced with a new and improved method that will truly become an answered prayer for many. This dynamic duo has written a one-of-a-kind book that reveals their counting secret. They are now ready to share their method with the rest of the world! Are you interested in genetics and the intricacies of DNA? Genetic engineering that deals with the human genome and DNA has become a hot bed for discussion in recent years. Advancements in forensic science have helped law enforcement to nab criminals and solve previous “cold” cases. Understanding the components of the human body and human nature is valuable information that is a welcome notion of safety for most.

While many would agree that using DNA as evidence is a good idea, manipulating human genetics is another issue. Cloning has surfaced as a debate with moral and ethical implications. Sheep have been cloned. One rationale for cloning animals was to provide more food to starving nations. Is cloning safe? Is creating a replica of an animal ethical? What are the long term effects of cloning?

Many people wonder if cloning humans will come next. Will it be a like a horrible old science fiction movie? How does the cloning process occur? How do scientists and doctors create a clone?

Stem cell research is also an issue discussed on many political shows and at dinner parties around the country. Is stem cell research ethical? When does life technically begin? Stem cell research can help to save a great number of people suffering from disease, but at what cost?

These are complex genetic engineering questions that require a great deal of knowledge before you can make an informed judgment. Become educated about genetic engineering issues by listening to exciting, cutting edge audio books on the subject. You can listen to them in the car on the way to work or on your morning walk.

The human body is a fascinating piece of science. Start by exploring the building blocks of the human body. Listen to DNA: The Secret of Life by James D. Watson. James D. Watson provides a comprehensive account of the genetic revolution. He has fifty years of experience on the subject. He explains the genetic revolution views in the past, present, and what to expect in the future.

Want to relive one of the most dramatic races in biology? Check out The Genome War by James Shreeve. This thrilling audio book details the race to map the human genome. Listen to the scientific adventure of a lifetime!

Concerned about the ethics and moral implications of genetic engineering? Want to know more about each side of the issue? Check out these great audio books to add to your deep well of knowledge. Listen to Enough: Setting Limits on Human Genetic Technology by Bill McKibben and Altering the Blueprint: The Ethics of Genetics by Alexander McCall Smith. Both of these audio books explore the ramifications of altering human genetics. Will humans lose their identity? Will altering human genetics create babies that are “made” instead of born?

Interested in other science topics as well? Check out the Science Friday Podcast. It covers science, health, technology and the environment.

Human DNA, genetics, and cloning will be a focal point of research for many decades to come. Understand the facets of human biology so that you can make informed judgments about any biological issues that may come your way.

About The Author: Jillian Gregory writes for LearnOutLoud.com, an online portal for educational and self-development audio and video material which can be found at http://www.learnoutloud.com For the HTML version of this article complete with links to the titles that were mentioned, please visit http://www.learnoutloud.com/ge01

Article Source: Infonexus.org Free Articles

School Symbols Jumper

School Symbols Jumper

This generously-sized denim jumper, decorated with embroidered appliques, is the right choice any time of year!
